Виды в этой группе различаются по форме роста и могут иметь форму наростов на скалах, завитков, брусков, горок, колонн и пальцевидных ветвей. Часто ветви отходят от базовой плоскости или бруска. Если условия им подходят, они быстро растут. Форма колонии в значительной степени определяется течениями, и даже в одном аквариуме можно получить большое разнообразие форм – даже внутри одной колонии.
